The history of Sorrento lemons I.G.P. has ancient roots dating back to the time of the Roman Empire. In fact, the Romans greatly appreciated the lemons grown on the hills of Sorrento, so much so that they introduced them to other parts of the Mediterranean as well. In 2000, the Sorrento lemon was recognized as a quality product when it was granted IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) certification by the European Union. It is often used in the preparation of sauces, marinades and desserts due to its very intense aroma.
